Michelle joined the Choose How You Move challenge in July. She heard about BetterPoints during a cycle ride with a friend whilst using the online cycle path maps. She liked the app and she could see the benefits of travelling actively.
Here is what she said about taking part in the challenge:
"Before using the BetterPoints app, I regularly drove my son to school, and I never cycled for travel purposes as I considered convenience the most important option.
What motivated me was the variety of rewards and earning points by being more active. I enjoy seeing how many miles I've walked or cycled actively. Plus, I like the promotions offered to encourage more bus journeys rather than solo car use.
Since taking part in the challenge, I now walk my son to and from school every day. I like to watch my activity log creep up! I also cycle more frequently for leisure to compete with myself, but also cycle for travel more often now, especially as I can see cycle routes in the app.
Now that I can walk further, and I feel healthier for it. I've also noticed my stamina increasing whilst cycling too! I feel very virtuous about travelling more actively!
We also spend less on petrol for our car, which is great, as we don't have to fill up quite as frequently. I've also saved on parking costs - I've found taking the bus a lot cheaper in the long run and don't have to worry about getting back to my car so quickly."
