Being more active has helped us as a family!
August's Sustainable Star Louise tells us how the Choose How You Move Challenge has helped her to change her travel habits.
When Louise joined BetterPoints in June she was using the car 7 days a week to get out and about and for work.
Her manager at Loughborough University sent information about the Choose How You Move challenge around to all staff to encourage them to travel more actively to work. She immediately decided to change the way she commuted and has enjoyed earning points in the process.
“I am a complete convert to active travel. I know at first taking the car may appear to be quicker, but once you get into your stride an active commute doesn’t actually take that much longer, and with the traffic it’s often quicker!
Walking helps me with getting in some daily exercise. I can look at lots of different things I don't get to see in a car. I’ve also started cycling into work too, it’s so much better for the environment.
I’ve really noticed the health benefits too, my clothes are fitting better and some are getting too big for me! My journey into work in the fresh air really sets me up for the day, and then the walk home helps me switch off and relax before getting in the door.
Not only has it helped me it’s also helped my son. I’ve been encouraging him to join me on walks to the local park. My son is diabetic and has bags of energy. The walks have helped him regulate his sugar levels and work off some of that energy over the school holidays, just a kick about in the park makes such a difference to us as family to get outside.” - Louise B
