Meet Nick who has cycled over 2,000 miles in lockdown
We like to bring you stories from BetterPoints users who are using the app to make positive changes to their lives and earning rewards. Recently I spoke to Nick and here is what he said about discovering BetterPoints and the positive impact it's had on his health and well-being:
‘I’ve always been a very active person, playing football twice a week as well as going to the gym. However, as soon as lockdown hit, that effectively ended my physical exercise routine, so I decided to dust off my bike, which had been in the garage for a few years with little use and get out and about on that! I now cycle 5-6 times a week and have cycled over 2000 miles since lockdown started. Working as Operations Manager for Leicester City Council’s Highways Operations Team, my team has been heavily involved in installing the pop-up cycle lanes in and around the city, and it's amazing how much safer and better protected you feel when you use them.
I saw the BetterPoints app on the Leicester City Council Facebook page and decided to download it and earn points whilst maintaining my fitness levels. Being out on my bike again has been great, but it’s not just been about my physical fitness. It has also helped massively with my mental well-being. I struggled initially during lockdown, particularly with not being as active as I was used to, but being out and about on my bike and getting fresh air enables me to clear my mind. I would definitely recommend cycling to anyone who is looking to improve their fitness and mental well-being’. - Nick W
